Monnaie de Paris - Golden Fetish Sou of Scrooge McDuck : Mini-medal 34mm
Limited to 1953.
In 1947, Carl Barks, an artist and comic book author employed by Western Publishing, the publisher of American comics for Disney at the time, created the character of Scrooge McDuck.
His original name, Scrooge McDuck, was inspired by the character Ebenezer Scrooge from the English author Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol.
Initially a minor character, he quickly becomes a key figure in Duckburg. He is known for having amassed a vast fortune, much of it stored in his safe. But one item is particularly dear to him: his lucky dime.
The mini medal is a modern interpretation of Scrooge McDuck's famous lucky dime.
As a side note, this coin, inspired by the American dime, was the first coin Scrooge McDuck earned in his youth after cleaning Burt the Roadman's shoes. This coin motivated Scrooge McDuck to work hard to achieve his goals. It will forever remain for Scrooge the symbol of success through hard work.
The obverse of the mini-medal features a portrait of Scrooge McDuck. His French name, "Balthazar Picsou," and "Sou fétiche" (lucky scrooge) are engraved in the extremity. A beaded border surrounds it.
On the reverse of the mini-medal is engraved "1 sou", in a semicircle is a laurel wreath, a numismatic symbol dating from ancient times, all surrounded by a beaded border.
At the bottom center is the Disney copyright which attests to the collaboration of the Monnaie de Paris with the famous animation house.
The lucky dime is offered in a gold version in 1,953 copies: 1 micron of gold is plated on the mini-medal.
